In November Manchester City Council will be launching its “Climate Change Action Plan.” The plan will outline how the Council is going to reduce greenhouse gas emissions sharply in the years up to 2020.
The leader of the Council will be taking a copy to the Copenhagen Climate Summit to show the world how well Manchester is doing.
There will be some very good things in the Action Plan. These we will want to applaud, and suggest the Council does them even quicker.
There will be some so-so things which will make us wince, and tell them “must try harder.”
There will be some silences and gaps in their plan that will make us want to shout from the (green) rooftops.
So, now that Call to Real Action folks are almost done with helping the Council write its plan, WE are going to write our own. And we are going to publish it before Copenhagen, so Richard Leese and others can be waving around copies of it alongside the Council’s. Plenty of time to read both on the train to Copenhagen…
We want YOU to get involved in writing the Alternative Plan. Please come to our next meeting, and if you can’t do that, email us.
